Basin Wood is a newer addition to the aquascaping hobby, prized for its exceptionally high-detail surface. Characterized by a rugged landscape of deep grooves, tight knots, and weathered twists, it offers more texture than almost any other aquarium driftwood. Whether you’re looking for a standout centerpiece for a nano-tank or a detailed accent to tuck into a larger aquarium hardscape, Basin Wood provides a mature, ancient look right out of the box.

Product Features and Benefits

  • The basin-like deep grooves and whorls are a dream for plant enthusiasts. These crevices act as natural planting pockets for epiphytes like Anubias, Bucephalandra, or Ferns, allowing for a seamless planted aquarium hardscape.
  • With its substantial width and height, Basin Wood offers a chunky architectural presence that provides stability to your layout. It pairs beautifully with stones like Seiryu or Dragon Stone for a cohesive river-bottom look.
  • The intricate surface isn't just for show, as it provides a massive amount of surface area for beneficial bacteria and acts as a natural playground for shrimp and small bottom-dwellers.
  • While perfect for driftwood aquariums, its rugged aesthetic also makes it a top-tier choice for high-humidity terrariums and paludariums.

Preparation and Care
Driftwood is a natural product and requires a bit of prep before it’s ready for prime time.

  1. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the piece to remove any dust or debris from transit.
  2. The Floating Phase: It will float initially. We recommend soaking it thoroughly or boiling it. A large stone or heavy decor may be placed on top to ensure a non-waterlogged piece of wood stays submerged.
  3. Tannin Management: Like most aquarium driftwood, this will release tannins, giving your water a warm, "tea-colored" tint. This is a natural occurrence, and the effects will subside over time. If you prefer crystal-clear water, a 1–2 hour boil is the best way to fast-track the process. You can also reduce this effect through consistent water changes or through the addition of Aquario Neo Carbon Bag

Important note: We recommend rinsing wood thoroughly before adding it to an established aquarium. If you prefer, you may also boil the wood for at least 1–2 hours to help release tannins.
