Microsorum Pteropus Thors Hammer

Microsorum pteropus ‘Thor’s Hammer’, also known as Java Fern Thor’s Hammer, is a unique variation known for its bright green leaves with tips that resemble the shape of a hammer. This distinctive form gives it a unique, sculptural look compared to other Java Fern varieties.

Recently reclassified as Leptochilus pteropus, this plant is still widely known in the aquarium hobby as Microsorum pteropus. However, like other Java Fern plants, it is hardy, easy to care for, and adaptable to a wide range of aquarium conditions.

It grows from a rhizome and will do best when attached to driftwood, rocks, or placed into crevices within hardscape. Over time, it will naturally self-attach, adding texture and structure to an aquascape.

Java Fern Thor’s Hammer grows well in low to medium lighting and is suitable for low tech planted aquariums. It can also be grown in high-humidity environments such as terrariums, vivariums, and paludariums. Be sure to keep the rhizome above the substrate to prevent rot. Propagation is simple—just divide the rhizome and reattach as needed.
