January invites reflection — not just on what has been accomplished, but on what still needs to be done.

Recently, Scully Learning Center Foundation was honored to be nominated as Small Charity of the Year by the Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce. While we did not receive the award, the experience reminded us of something far more meaningful than recognition: the strength of community and the shared commitment to serving others.

We are grateful to the Chamber for the nomination and extend heartfelt congratulations to the organizations recognized this year. Their work uplifts our community, and we are proud to stand alongside so many groups dedicated to making a difference.

But awards are not what drive our mission.

Every day, we serve adults with developmental disabilities — individuals with unique abilities, aspirations, and a deep desire for connection and independence. Behind each person we support is a family with hopes for their loved one’s future and questions about what lies ahead.

Those questions are at the heart of our work.

A Vision for Stability and Belonging

One of our most important goals is the creation of a group home in Arizona — a safe, supportive environment designed to meet the long-term needs of adults with developmental disabilities. This vision is not simply about constructing a building. It is about creating a place where residents can grow, feel secure, and belong.

For many families, the idea of a group home represents peace of mind. It means knowing their loved one will have stability, structure, and community, even when they can no longer provide daily care themselves.

The need for such housing continues to grow. Yet, resources remain limited.

Moving Forward with Purpose

While recognition from our community is deeply meaningful, it also reinforces our responsibility. We are committed to continuing our programs, expanding opportunities for those we serve, and turning our group home vision into reality.

None of this happens alone.

Progress is made through the generosity of donors, the dedication of volunteers, and the voices of advocates who believe in a more inclusive future. Every contribution — whether financial, time-based, or simply sharing our story — helps us move closer to our goals.

The Power of Community Support

The evening with the Cave Creek Chamber reminded us that meaningful change is rarely the result of a single organization. It is built through relationships, collaboration, and shared purpose.

We left inspired by the conversations, connections, and collective energy of people who care deeply about our community. That energy fuels our work and strengthens our resolve.

Looking Ahead

As we step into the new year, our focus remains clear: to continue supporting adults with developmental disabilities and to build a home that reflects dignity, compassion, and opportunity.

We believe every individual deserves a future filled with stability and belonging. With continued community support, we can make that future possible.

Together, we are not just building programs or facilities — we are building hope.
