“Scully changed Kelly’s life in Arizona. We are thankful for Scully and all it has done for Kelly. She loves being part of the Scully family and it makes her so very happy. It lights up her life. She is very excited about the opportunity to live in a house that Scully builds. As her parents we have been concerned and have asked the question, who takes care of your loved one when you are gone or unable to provide for them? The Scully Campaign to build a house will create a home for these loved ones. Building this house is an incredible act of love.”

A wonderful opportunity came Kelly’s way in September of 2011. Paula Scully started The Scully Learning Center Foundation. Kelly found a very special place at Scully as a participant and eventually as a participant/volunteer. Her life has been touched by kind, caring and loving volunteers and so many wonderful activities. Ceramics, painting, cooking, organic gardening and field trips that included AZ hikes, cultural and western adventures. It is truly a family for Kelly and she has learned so much.

Kelly was born with multiple congenital anomalies. She was diagnosed with both a developmental and intellectual disability, a seizure disorder, speech and hearing impairments, congenital scoliosis and kyphosis and bilateral hip dysplasia.

As a young adult, Kelly had many full and enriching programs in NY State with DDD and Special Olympics and an incredible job at Wegmans as a bakery assistant. In July of 2011, Kelly relocated with her parents to Arizona. It was a difficult year for Kelly leaving behind family, friends and an active life. She was denied services by DDD in August 2011 and it was over a year before an appeal granted her services. A job was impossible to find as many employers were not open to hiring an intellectually disabled individual. Many disappointments and challenges.
