To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Mary Wetherbee and I was a caregiver for Luke who has been attending programs at the Scully Learning Center for the past 15 years. My journey with Luke began when he attended Cactus Shadows High School. I was a paraprofessional in his classroom for three years. While at the school, one of Luke’s friends told us about Scully Learning Center. After those three years, his mom asked if I could become Luke’s personal caregiver at his home. This was a natural transition time to begin having Luke attend the programs at the Scully Learning Center.
Luke is a 35 year old male with Down syndrome. He utilizes a communicative device since he have very limited verbal skills. Luke uses sounds and sign language to relay his wants and needs.
Both of Luke’s parents were doctors who have both since passed. He has 3 siblings, an older brother and 2 younger sisters. His older brother lives in Arizona and one of his younger sisters lives in Colorado. Luke’s other younger sister has since taken over as his guardian and they continue to live in his home in Arizona. He has an aunt and uncle, both of whom live in Arizona.
Luke has developed a close bond with his friends at the Scully Learning Center. Luke always looks forward to every new adventure with Paula, her family, the volunteers and especially his friends. We are a family with everyone at the Scully Learning Center. Luke continues to grow and develop socially, emotionally and physically. The Scully Learning Center has and will always be a place filled with fun, laughter, learning, new adventures and friendships.
Warmly,
Mary Wetherbee
